Victoria attended the Von Humboldt Grade School and Tuley High School in Chicago, IL. She received her B.A. Degree from California State University, San Bernardino, CA. Victoria was a teacher for 27 years and a principal for 19 years, with a total of 46 years in Education. She taught for two years at the Plato School, Chicago, IL; and four years with the Department of Defense, with one year in Germany and three years in Zaragoza, Spain. She taught the grades from kindergarten to fifth grade throughout her career.

Victoria met her husband Major Glenn R. Magathan, a fighter pilot, in Zaragoza, Spain, where he was stationed with the US Air Force. Together they came to George Air Force Base, CA in 1964.

Victoria taught for the Adelanto School District for 40 years, with 21 years as a teacher at the Geoge and Sheppard School at George Aire Force Base and 19 years as a Principal at the George School.

She was a member of the Association of California Scoot Administrators. She also volunteered at the St. Mary's Hospital for ten years in the gift shop, the Men Who Cook, Committee, and the President's Cabinet. She was a member of the High Desert Retired Teachers (Tumbleweed Division #72) and was a member of the Altrusa Club. While Principal at the George School, she volunteered as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, United Way Committee, and the Federal Correction Facility Committee.

Victoria loved to travel, she was a history minor at the University of Illinois and decided when she retired in 2004 that she wanted to see the places she had read about. She booked an "Around the world" cruise on the Queen Victoria and visited six continents over a period of four months. A wonderful adventure.

During her teaching career, she was twice honored by being listed in "Who's Who in American Education", 1989 – 1990 and 1992-1993. She was also recognized in the "Two Thousand Notable American Women", Third Edition by the American Biographical Institute.

Upon retirement from the Adelanto School District after 40 years, they named a school in her honor, the Victoria Magathan Elementary School in Adelanto, CA. She was truly humbled by this honor. When the base closed in 1992, Victoria established the first Magnet School of the High Desert, the Harold H. George Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School. The core curriculum was taught along with music, art, theatre, and dance. It was highly successful. She was honored by the California School Administrators by being give the title of Emeritus Member. While getting her Master's degree at CSU at San Bernardino, she maintained a 3.9 GPA.  Victoria loved her students and they loved her. She had a genuine love for teaching. She firmly believed that all children had potential and were eager to learn. The beauty of Victoria's smile will be missed by her cousins, friends, and neighbors. May you rest in peace Dear Lady!
