Victor M. Lopez “Papo”, 70, devoted husband for over 44 years to Sheri Lopez; cherished brother of Gigi (Alfie) Hernandez; treasured brother-in-law of Anthony Medina; adoring uncle of Jocelyn Medina, Sharay (Michael) Fernandez, and Alife J. (Ana) Hernandez; loving grand-uncle of Kayla Fernandez, Gabriel Fernandez, Arabella Fernandez, Isaiah Hernandez, Lucas Hernandez, Eli Hernandez, and Elise Hernandez dedicated son of the late Victor Lopez and the late Jenny Lopez; and caring pet parent of Ivy.
Papo found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a game, especially when cheering on his favorite Chicago teams. He had a deep appreciation for horse racing and spent many hours studying the horses. Victor also enjoyed reading, with a particular interest in mystery novels, true crime stories, and the Bible, always seeking knowledge and reflection. In his quieter moments, Victor loved playing video games, especially baseball, combining his love of sports with a playful spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. One of his most endearing qualities was his compassion for animals. Papo could often be found feeding the neighborhood rabbits, squirrels, and birds, a daily ritual that reflected his gentle and caring nature.
Above all, Papo’s greatest joy was his family. He would do anything for his nieces and nephews and was incredibly generous with them, always putting their needs before his own and taking pride in being someone they could count on. His generosity, both big and small, left a lasting impression on their lives and created memories they will carry with them forever. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held for Papo on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Remembrance Service to begin at 5:00 p.m. at The Elms Funeral Home 7600 W. Grand Ave., Elmwood Park, IL.
