Thomas Elmer Vogel, 79, of Round Lake, formerly of Batavia and Elmwood Park, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and quiet devotion to family.
Thomas was a loving father to Matthew (Natascha) and a cherished Papa to Allison “Ally”, who was truly the center of his world. He was also a caring grandfather figure to Selena. He is survived by his sister Marilynn (the late Brian) Scully and was preceded in death by his sister Janice (Wayne) Wisner. Thomas now joins his first wife, Christina, and his second wife, Beverly, in eternal rest.
An avid fisherman, Thomas loved fishing in northern Wisconsin and in Canada, and more recently on his pontoon boat on Long Lake. He also treasured the simple joy of bringing Ally to camp every day during the summers—moments that became some of his most cherished memories.
A man of many talents and interests, Thomas enjoyed playing folk songs on his guitar. He also enjoyed watercolor painting, often expressing his creativity through art. He had a deep appreciation for art and photography, finding beauty in both creating and observing the world around him. He thoroughly enjoyed cooking and experimenting with new recipes and was an accomplished woodworker who built many pieces of furniture proudly displayed in his home.
During his years living in Batavia, Thomas raised ducks, a pastime that reflected his patience, curiosity, and love for hands-on pursuits. Ever inquisitive, he spent much of his free time reading scientific journals and articles, maintaining a lifelong passion for learning and discovery.
Professionally, Thomas worked for many years as an electrical engineer at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where his intelligence, dedication, and thoughtful problem-solving defined a long and respected career.
Above all else, Thomas will be remembered for his gentle presence, his devotion to his family, and the quiet, meaningful ways he enriched the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 1, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service on Monday, February 2, 11:00 a.m., at The Elms Funeral Home, 7600 W. Grand Ave., Elmwood Park. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow.
