Comenzó trabajando como soldador y con esfuerzo, determinación y el deseo constante de superarse, continuó sus estudios hasta convertirse en preparador de impuestos y asesor fiscal certificado. Alrededor de 1978 abrió su propia oficina, donde trabajó incansablemente durante casi cinco décadas, incluso hasta sus 86 años el continuó trabajando, porque era parte de su vida. A lo largo de los años ayudó a innumerables personas, no solo con sus asuntos de impuestos, sino también orientándolas y apoyándolas en sus procesos de migración. Muchos de sus clientes con el paso del tiempo, se convirtieron en grandes amigos. Tuvo la bendición de formar muchas amistades a lo largo de su vida algunos de esos amigos ya se habían adelantado en el camino, dejando una huella en su corazón.Era un hombre lleno de vida, alegre y bromista. Le encantaban la música, el baile, las fiestas y, sobre todo, estar rodeado de personas. Disfrutaba hacer reír a los demás y tenía una manera muy especial de contar sus chistes. Uno de sus comienzos favoritos era “Mi abuelita siempre me dijo” seguramente muchos de quienes lo conocieron recuerdan alguna de sus ocurrencias.También tenía un gran amor por los poemas. Le encantaba recitarlos en eventos y reuniones familiares y muchas veces, tomaba el micrófono para dedicar unas palabras especiales según la ocasión. En los cumpleaños de sus hijos y nietos siempre encontraba palabras llenas de cariño y sentimiento. Hoy, esas palabras se encuentran entre los recuerdos más valiosos que nos dejó.En 1973 conoció a mi mamá y juntos formaron una familia con sus tres hijos Alma, Teddy y Orlando. Con los años llegaron sus tres nietos, Gaby, Sabrina y Gael, quienes ocuparon un lugar muy especial en su corazón. Fue el mejor abuelo del mundo!Disfrutaba profundamente compartir con su familia. Tenía un cariño muy especial por sus hermanos, sobrinos y demás familiares, y también llegó a querer y valorar a la familia de mi mamá como parte de la suya. Para él, las reuniones familiares y celebraciones eran una oportunidad para conversar, contar historias, hacer bromas y disfrutar rodeado de las personas que amaba. Ambas familias fueron una parte muy importante de su vida.Hoy despedimos a un hombre trabajador, luchador y generoso que, con esfuerzo, perseverancia y sacrificio, construyó una vida de la que todos podemos sentirnos orgullosos. Nos quedamos con sus historias, sus consejos, sus poemas, sus canciones, sus bailes, sus bromas y todos los momentos que compartimos junto a el. Theodore Delgado, known to many as “Godoy” was born on September 10, 1939, in Ecuador. On August 28, 2026, at the age of 86, he left us physically, but his memory, his love, and his legacy will remain forever in our hearts.

In the early 1960s, he arrived in Chicago as a young man, full of dreams and determined to build a better life. He began working as a welder and, through hard work, determination, and a constant desire to better himself, continued his education and eventually became a certified tax preparer and tax advisor. Around 1978, he opened his own office, where he worked tirelessly for nearly five decades, continuing to work even at the age of 86. His work was not simply his profession; it was an important part of who he was.

Throughout the years, he helped countless people, not only with their tax matters but also by guiding and supporting them through their immigration processes. Many of his clients eventually became dear friends because, to him, the people he met were always much more than clients. He was blessed to form many friendships throughout his life. Some of those friends had already gone before him, but each of them left a lasting mark on his heart.

He was a man full of life joyful, playful, and always ready with a joke. He loved music, dancing, parties, and, above all, being surrounded by people. He loved making others laugh and had a very special way of telling his jokes. One of his favorite ways to begin was, “My grandmother always told me…” and surely many who knew him can remember one of the funny stories or jokes that followed.

He also had a great love for poetry. He loved reciting poems at events and family gatherings and would often take the microphone to share a few special words suited to the occasion. On the birthdays of his children and grandchildren, he always found words filled with love and emotion. Today, those words are among the most precious memories he left us.

In 1973, he meet his wife, Juanita Ornelas, and together they built a family with their three children Alma, Teddy, and Orlando. Over the years came his three grandchildren, Gaby, Sabrina, and Gael, who held an incredibly special place in his heart. He was the best grandfather in the world!

He deeply cherished spending time with his family. He had a special love for his siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family, and he also came to love and value my mother’s family as his own. To him, family gatherings and celebrations were opportunities to talk, share stories, tell jokes, and simply enjoy being surrounded by the people he loved. Both families were an incredibly important part of his life.

Today, we say goodbye to a hardworking, determined, and generous man who, through effort, perseverance, and sacrifice, built a life that we can all be proud of. We are left with his stories, his advice, his poems, his songs, his dancing, his jokes, and all the beautiful moments we were fortunate enough to share with him.

Although your absence brings us profound sadness, we will always be grateful for the blessing of having you as our father. We will miss you every day, but we will also celebrate the life you lived and the man you were.
