Ramon Mercado

Ramon “Papo” Mercado, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on May 14, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born on December 16, 1948, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, to Bernardo Mercado and Juanita Rivera.

On July 11, 1970, Ramon married the love of his life, Luz Enilda Rivera, in Chicago, Illinois. Together they built a loving family rooted in faith, laughter, and cherished traditions. Ramon was a devoted Christian whose greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Ramon created countless memories with his children and grandchildren, especially during summers spent around the family swimming pool in Northlake, Illinois. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting movies and model cars, and sharing simple moments that became lifelong memories for those he loved. To his grandchildren, he will always be remembered for carrying popsicles in his back pocket, keeping a drawer full of candy, and always having a jar of coins ready for a spirited game of dominoes. Bingo during the holidays was one of his favorite family traditions.

Ramon is survived by his children: Ricardo Ramon Mercado and wife Graciela of Frisco, Texas; Daniel Mercado and wife Joanna of Kissimmee, Florida; Orlando Elias Mercado and wife Isabelle of Plano, Texas; Jessica Mercado Russo and husband Mario of Frisco, Texas; and Ramon Mercado, Jr. and wife Sandra of Frisco, Texas.

He also leaves behind seventeen beloved grandchildren: Carina, Isaiah, Maia, Jeremiah, Ariana, Tatiana, Emily, Jalyssa, Caleb, Jocelyn, Elijah, Elyse, Noah, Joshua, Selah, Alayna, and Anabella; two great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Josiah; his sister, Margarita Mercado of Puerto Rico; and his brother, Santos “Nelson” Mercado of Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Lucy Mercado.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/. The family will receive guests for a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will take place Tuesday, May 26, with a graveside service scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Irving Park Cemetery, 7777 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago IL 60634.
