Obituary

Michael Meyer 59 passed away on January 18th 2022. Michael was the was the loving husband of Silvie cherished brother to Linda and beloved relative, friend and colleague to many others.

Michael dedicated his life and career to serving others, working for organizations including SourceAmerica,Sinai Hospital, and the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute before joining the Goodwill organization. During his tenure with Goodwill, he held leadership positions at the local and national levels, most recently serving as the CEO of Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley in Frederick, Maryland (GIMV), and then as a senior advisor following the merger with Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA).

Michael was instrumental in the successful merger of GIMV and GCNA, and played a strategic role in helping to determine a future direction for providing the best possible services in that market. During his time with Goodwill, Michael worked together with the International Council of Shopping Centers to get restrictions against thrift stores removed from major retailers. Michael cared deeply about the mission of Goodwill and was committed to providing employment and training opportunities to individuals with barriers to employment.

Jim Martin, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Lane and South Counties stated, "Michael was a passionate advocate for the Movement, an innovator who always wanted to push the envelope so that he could push our mission forward, always."

A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Michael carried himself with a sense of purpose. He also had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Lisa Rusyniak, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc. shares, "Maya Angelou once wrote. 'I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.' Many may not know that Michael was one of those leaders. He always made his employees and the people he served in Monocacy feel included, loved, and appreciated. He made everyone feel not just good, but also important and valued, regardless of their position in the organization. We truly lost a Goodwill warrior, colleague, and friend today."

Visitation will be held at the at the Elms Funeral Home, 7600 W. Grand Avenue, Elmwood Park IL on Monday January 24, 2022 from 3PM to 8PM.
