It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Hilda Metzger's passing on February 4, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on September 16, 1934, in Rothenkirchen, Germany to the late Michael and Elisabeth (nee Lang) Ringlstetter. Hilda immigrated to the United States in 1954 settling in Chicago. She spent most of her years living in Elmwood Park, Illinois and cherished her time in Fort Myers, Florida during her later years.
Hilda was married to her dear husband, Roman Metzger, for 56 wonderful years. She was adored by all who crossed her path, known for her love, kindness, and radiant smile. A lover of dancing and singing traditional German songs, she found joy in gardening and social gatherings. Hilda was a dedicated member of The German American Social Club in Cape Coral, Florida, where she relished her Friday night dances.
With over three decades of service, Hilda worked at Appleton Electric Company and later at the American Envelope Company before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roman, and all her 10 siblings; Maria, Katharina, Margareta, Sophie, Maximilian, Baptist, Max, Kuni, Paul, and Adolf, as well as her cherished pug, Schatzie.
Hilda is survived by her daughter Christine Metzger and her son Richard Metzger.
She was a loving Mother, Aunt, Cousin, Neighbor, and Friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to The Elms Funeral Home, 7600 W. Grand Ave (North at 76th Ave), Elmwood Park, IL.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Funeral Service is scheduled for Monday, February 17, 2025. Prayers will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Celestine Church. Afterward, there will be a procession to her final resting place at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, IL.
