Wiemerslage
May 9, 1924 – March 2, 1945
Sgt. Francis Wendell Wiemerslage was born May 9, 1924. He was killed in action March 2, 1945, in WWII when his plane was shot down over Züllsdorf, Germany in a bombing mission over Dresden. He served as the ball turret gunner in a B-17G with the 549th Bombardment Squadron, 385th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for his remains on August 24, 2021.
Frankie Wiemerslage was the beloved son of Harold Wiemerslage and Vivian McInerney Wiemerslage. His grandparents were Frank and Bertha (Stade) Wiemerslage and Stephen and Nellie McInerney, all deceased. His siblings were Audrey Hansen, deceased (Henry, deceased); Harold, deceased (Dorothy); and Roland, deceased. He is survived by his nephew Phil Wiemerslage (Donna) and his three nieces, Susan Wiemerslage Kearns, Diane Wiemerslage Almer (Jay) and Karen Hansen (Ray Henry) as well as a great nephew and great nieces and great-great nieces and nephews. Family and friends to meet, Saturday, October 23 at St. Cyprian Church 2601 Clinton St., River Grove for a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Francis' honor to the Chicagoland Combined Veterans Museum and Library, LLC 8664 W. Grand Ave., River Grove, IL 60171 would be appreciated.
