Edward J. Blondell, 89, born June 12, 1934 to Matthew and Rosemary, passed away January 6, 2024.
Edward, born 9th of 11 children, grew up in the Austin area of Chicago. Brother of the late June, Ann, Patricia, Matthew, Norman, Nancy, Alice, Mary, Thomas and is survived by his sister Joyce.
Ed was an army veteran, a graduate of DePaul University, C.P.A., former partner at Grant Thorton and the former president and chairman of The New York Blower Company. He also held offices as director and honorary president of the company's international trade organizations, Air Movement and Control Association.
Loving husband to the late Lila (nee Hubbell) beloved father to Steve, Karen DeSelm (late Bill DeSelm), Brian (Stephanie) and Susan Netzel (Kurt). Dear friend to Janet Lee. Much loved grandfather to Lindsey, Michael, Rachel, Brett, Morgan, Eleanor, Nikko, Daniel, Matthew, Lilabell the late Kelly and great grandfather to Samson.
Ed and Lila had many friends in several locations where they had homes. Former Des Plaines residents for 35 years while also enjoying homes in Lauderdale Lakes, WI and Sarasota, FL. Finally settling in Prospect Heights, IL. They enjoyed golf, travel and many other activities together. They were also long time members of The 1st United Methodist Church of Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project
Visitation, Thursday, January 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Funeral Service, Friday, January 12, 10:00 a.m., at The Elms Funeral Home 7600 W. Grand Ave. (turn north at 76th Ave.) Elmwood Park. Interment to follow at Acacia Park Cemetery, Norridge, IL.
