IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carmen "Carmín"
Ortiz
February 15, 1944 – August 21, 2023
Carmen "Carmín" Ortiz, a beloved mother, cherished abuela, dear sister, and friend to many. Carmín passed away peacefully on August 21, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Carmín was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico, and her legacy is etched into the lives of those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a lasting impact on her children, Carmen E. Velez, Raymond M. (Marisol) Velez, and Cynthia J. Velez.
As an adored abuela, Carmín shared a special bond with her grandchildren: Karina Mercado, Mariel Velez, Toñito Rivera, Moi Velez, and Celi Rivera. Her warmth, wisdom, and love will continue to resonate through the generations.
Carmín was not only a dear sister to Lucy, Aida, Nina, Nery, Wito, Cholo, Felix, and Tito but also an inspiration to all. Though she mourned the loss of her late brother, Melo, her love for her family remained unwavering. Her nieces and nephews were touched by her kindness and care.
Carmin's vibrant spirit extended beyond her family, as she was known throughout the community. As the proud owner of the Lite Inn in Chicago's Humboldt Park Neighborhood, she established herself as a pillar of strength and a beacon of hospitality. Her welcoming smile and hearty laughter created a home away from home for countless patrons.
A social butterfly, Carmín possessed a remarkable ability to light up any room she entered. Her zest for life and her natural gift for bringing people together made her the life of every party. She had a magnetic charm that drew others towards her, forming connections that spanned generations.
Above all, Carmín's heart was her greatest treasure. Her compassion knew no bounds, and her generosity touched the lives of many. She gave without reservation, loved without conditions, and cared without hesitation.
